Scholarships

Application deadline is October 31, 2008.

The American Indian Science & Engineering Society (AISES) Columbia River Chapter (CRC) located in Richland, Washington is proud to announce its Seventh Annual Scholarship Program. The Program is a way to financially assist American Indian students seeking degrees in math, science, engineering, business and health. The AISES-CRC Scholarship Program will award scholarships to qualified American Indian college applicants enrolled full-time who reside in Washington, Idaho or Oregon. Candidates must show proof of Tribal Affiliation.

The scholarships winners will be announced at the AISES speaker event on November 13, 2007. Need not be present to win.

Scholarship FAQ

Students must currently be attending high school or college. Post-graduate students are also eligible. Student must be at least 1/4 American Indian blood or at least 1/4 Alaskan Native. Student must be a member of tribe claimed and must be able to provide documentation to confirm.
No, but you do need to be from Washington, Oregon or Idaho. You can be attending a school outside the area, but your permanant residency must be from Washington, Oregon or Idaho.
We require transcripts from your most recent school, whether high school or college, a personal essay, tribal enrollment documentation, 2 letters of recommendation and a completed application.
This year the scholarships are for $1000 each. We will award up to 2 scholarships this year.

AISES-CRC 2006 Scholarship Winners

The American Indian Science and Enginneering Society Columbia River Chapter is proud to announce 2 winners of 2006 AISES-CRC scholarships. The winners are:

Danielle, who is Spokane and Nez Perce, is pursuing degrees in Early Childhood Development and Business Administration. She hopes to use her degress to someday return to her home reservation and work at the Tribal Headstart Program. She is working hard to maintain a 4.0 GPA to represent the Native people the best she can as well as still be the best mother, wife and daughter she can be. She enjoys working with children and we feel she will have a positive influence on the children in her life.
Heather, who is Santee Sioux, is pursuing a degree in Engineering (either Electrical or Mechanical) at Columbia Basin College. Her goal is to complete her degree at University of Washington, which would make her the first in her family to get a degree. She hopes to have a successful career in engineering and we feel she is on her way to doing so, with her high GPA, but also has been taught by her parents to remember her tribal roots and remember where she comes from and balance her life accordingly.

AISES-CRC 2005 Scholarship Winners

The American Indian Science and Enginneering Society Columbia River Chapter if proud to announce 2 winners of 2005 AISES-CRC scholarships. The winners are:

Lesli, from the Cowlitz tribe, is majoring in Flight Technology at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. She has a zest for adventure, which guided her into wanting to become a flight officer. She is committed to her tribe and family and one of her goals is to expose young Native girls to non-traditional careers for women.
Sheldon is 1/2 NezPerce and 1/2 Umatilla. He is returning student, having tried college when he was 17, only to make the decision to join the Marines instead. He is back in college now attending Lewis and Clark State College in Lewiston, ID using his "arguing" skills to work in Business Administration and Law. Always remembering his roots, he may be considering returning to his birthplace on the Nez Perce Reservation to work for the tribe.

Christine is a Cow Creek-Umpqua heading to Harvard University.
Hailey is pursueing a Nursing degree at Lewis-Clark State College.

AISES-CRC 2003 Scholarship Winners

The American Indian Science and Enginneering Society Columbia River Chapter if proud to announce 3 winners of 2003 AISES-CRC scholarships. The winners are:

Patrick is from the Cayuse-Walla Walla and Yakama tribes and was attending Blue Mountain Community College. He will be attending Oregon State University this school year. He is working toward a Bachelors of Science in Natural Resources. As a returning student with a family, he still manages to stay active in the college and the community in the Native American Club and Associated Student Government. He is an excellent role model to students of all ages.
Justin a from the Aleut tribe of Cook Inlet. He has just graduated from Blaine High School and is heading off to school to get his Bachelors of Science in Aeronautical Science which will send him off to his ultimate goal of becoming a professional pilot. He is a motivated young man and we hope he continues on this path to success.
Veranda is from the Cherokee tribe. She is working toward her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education, Geography and History at Eastern Oregon University. She has overcome struggles with her studies from her earlier high school years and is making great progress in her field of choice. Besides going to school, she is also volunteering to become active in the Native American mentorship program on campus.
